Alright, that should buy enough safety space.
So overall, not terribly surprising that Tara Jean took the title and Vincent in second place. The replay dances were all pretty good, but I imagine the rest of the Top 20 is feeling a little gypped at coming out when only 6 or 7 of them were featured.
The two original pieces tonight were wonderful. Sean Cheesman's Afro Jazz piece for the Top 20 was just fantastic. Great music, uplifting choreography, just lovely.
As to Mia Michaels piece for the Top 10...I'll start off by saying that I've found Mia to be a bit off her game during the last season of SYTYCD US and the little that she did this season in Canada. The power in her pieces just hasn't been there. Think back for a bit to Travis and Heidi's 'Bench' routine, or Lacey and Kameron's 'Dancing' routine, or the killer group numbers she's done. Her more recent pieces just haven't measured up.
But tonight's piece was a return for me to classic Mia. It was inspired and powerful and twisted and I just loved it. Not to mention the costuming and set for the whole thing. Just loved it all. A little too bad that it was pre-taped and not done live, but that's a small price to pay.
If Mia had to quit SYTYCD to get this kind of spirit back in her work, then I support her decision whole heartedly.
Other than that, a pretty hum drum finale to close out a hum drum season. Tara Jean and Vincent's 'Mental Illness' routine by Stacey Tookey is easily the best of the season. Stacey Tookey has definitely proven herself the powerhouse as far as the Canadian show goes. Hopefully she gets pulled out to the American one a few times in Season 6.
Congratulations to Tara Jean and all that. Here's to an even better season next year.
Tomorrow night's a 'Meet the Top 20' episode of SYTYCD US. I might come in and post something after that, I'm not sure. I will definitely be back in for the Top 20 Performance competition on Tuesday and Carly will be looking after the results on Wednesday.
