So You Think You Can Dance Canada - Top 10!

So here we are for the Top 10!!

I’m sort of excited that the couples are all mixed up tonight...and a little nervous. I’m just hoping those dancers that don’t belong in the Top 10 don’t sewer the ones that do.

Alongside Tre and Jean Marc tonight are Luther and Blake!

Up first are Natalli and Izaak. This is good. I wouldn’t be sad to see either one go. They’re doing hip hop with Sho-Tyme who says Natalli’s gotta be ugly.

They’re dancing to ‘Momma Said Knock You Out’ by LL Cool J. Natalli’s gotta get off her toes. Ten to one the judges get on her about not being grounded enough. The more I watch the less I’m seeing hip hop. It’s more like....interpretive hop scotch. It’s not ugly, and it’s not very impressive. Yeah, I was neither here nor there with this one.

Luther thinks Natalli rocked it (WTF?) and thinks Izaak did okay. Blake praises Natalli some more and says she stayed grounded (WTF?) and thinks Izaak didn’t hit it hard enough. Tre thinks Izaak needs to go full out more and then says something to Natalli I found interesting....”The camera was on you all the time, ‘cause it knows the competition needs to see you.” Ummm...the camera doesn’t actually make the decisions on where to film, the camera person does. And usually the camera person is given some direction. So did Tre just admit that Natalli was being given more screen time than Izaak? JM thinks the second half was too loose for Izaak, and Natalli took no prisoners. My response to this entire judging segment...ugh.

First solo performance is Vincent dancing to ‘Pour Gabrielle’ by Jorane. This is cool, very connected to the music. While I really do enjoy Vincent, the one thing I always notice is that his center seems a bit odd in his turns... But no one else has mentioned this, so I might just be making stuff up.

Arassay’s up next with her solo dancing to ‘Eyes on Me’ by Celine Dion. Very twirly and dramatic and she had a killer flip in there. Very good. I thought her dress was perfect in this piece and the whole thing came off really well.

Next up are Kaitlyn and Danny doing Mambo with Melanie Lapatin and Tony Meredith. They’re dancing to ‘Salsa y Sabor’ by Tito Puente. They’re both really sharp and together. Danny could probably stand to loosen up his hips a little bit, but overall it’s really good. I thought Kaitlyn had a lot of stiffness in her back and hips throughout this one.

Luther thinks they smashed it. Blake thinks Kaitlyn has great lines and Danny lit up the thing. He’s also now coined his own vehicle....the Blake Bus to JM’s VID List. I once knew someone who got VD on a bus (don’t ask). But... how can I not! Come on, who got on a VD bus, and what exactly IS a VD bus? These things are not helping. Tre thinks Kaitlyn is privileged to have Danny has a partner and she got mambo all over her (?). JM thinks Kaitlyn was a little too light on her feet but Danny was amazing.

Lisa’s on for her solo dancing to “Secret’ by Missy Higgins. Isn’t it amazing how some people’s ego is expressed in absolutely everything they do? It’s a good solo, but reeks a bit of over confidence. Ha, I was thinking the same thing about the choice of music. But overall, I thought it was a good showing.

Dancing solo to ‘Juice (Know the Ledge)’ by Eric B. & Rakim is Miles. This looks like pretty classic hip hop/B-boy style. I like it.

Now we’ve got Allie and Nico! Yay!!!! Great Pairing. They’re doing a waltz with Amy Wright. They’re dancing to ‘That’s Life’ by Michael Buble. You can tell this is right in Allie’s ‘pocket’, so to speak. They’re both really smooth, the lifts look effortless. Well done. Before I saw the magic that was Nico and Arassay, I was kind of hoping these two would be paired together at the beginning. Of course, I thought this one was great...

Luther says Nico’s the perfect partner and says it was effortless and sweet. Blake thought it was beautiful. Tre says they ‘did it’ for her and wanted more. JM loved it even though the footwork wasn’t perfect.

Danny’s solo is to ‘Closer’ by Ne-Yo. It didn’t seem like he did enough ‘stuff’ with this, but I still sort of liked it.

Kaitlyn’s dancing solo to ‘Best for Last’ by Adele. She’s cute, it was cute.

Arassay is paired up with Vincent for Disco with Melissa Williams. I was hoping they would get a more standard partnered dance, ‘cause I think they could kill it, but I’m interested to see what they do with this. They’re dancing to ‘Hot N Cold’ by Katy Perry. Ugh...Katy Perry. Isn’t it just about time she went away. Aaaannnyway...They’re sharp and meet up really well together at all the right places. The lifts look really good. I hesitate to say...but I think Vincent was kind of made for this style! Arassay's boots were killer!

JM is up whistling! Luther was blown away by Arassay and says Vincent is one of his favourites. Blake says they have what it takes to make it to the Top 4. At this point I agree. Tre says they’re here to say. JM calls them a powerhouse, brings out the VID list. Again.

Now, I have to ask, which do you think is worse, this whole VD thing or the hot tamale train...

Allie’s up for her solo to ‘Fun for Me’ by Moloko. She seems very fond of the tartan. This is sort of sassy for ballet. It’s creative. I like it. I thought this one was funky, I like what she did with the whole thing... who would have thought tartan and a tutu would work so well!

And here’s where we run into the technical difficulties portion of our recap. My PVR box decided to reset itself, so, of course I lose out on Nico’s solo. Carra’s going to have to fill you in on that one. Huh. Technical problems you say? If it weren't a 4 hour drive, I'd offer to come over and help you out with that... but since that's not an option, why don't we just blame it on Bell for the moment...

And seriously, you leave me to do the Nico portion, when you KNOW all I have to say is... mmm sigh... The best I can do on a serious note is say that I find Nico's dancing very Wade Robson-esque, and that my friends, is never a bad thing.

Lisa and Miles are doing Contemporary with Sean Cheesman. Lisa thinks she’ll be able to do great things for Miles. *Eye Roll* Okay, that’s not exactly what she says, but that’s the drift I got. They’re dancing to ‘Soulmate’ by Natasha Bedingfield. What I saw of this one seemed pretty good, but then the PVR died again.

I missed Luther and Blake’s judging, but based on the cheers, it was probably mostly good. Tre says Miles didn’t do it. JM says they both did it for him. Damn it! Did you miss the part where Cheesman totally calls Tre out on her comments? That was the BEST! He was looking seriously cheesed... hahaha get it? Cheesed? Cheesman looked Cheesed? Tee hee.

Natalli’s up for her solo to ‘Quimbara’ by Celia Cruz. This seems slightly less stripper-esque than her normal. I’m okay with it. A second before this one started, I physically braced myself for the whole pole thing, but when I saw that she was taking it another direction, I felt a surge of relief. It was probably the better of her solos.

Finally Izaak’s up dancing to ‘No One’ by Alicia Keys. I always really like Izaak’s solos. He seems to be way more comfortable solo than with a partner.

Tonight I’m saying ‘thank goodness’ for the recap at the end. Ahh, there’s a snippet of Nico’s solo. It looks like I would have liked it. But hold on a second... As much as we both think that Izaak does not belong in the Top 10, do you not think it was a bit harsh for JM to go after him like that when everyone else got such glowing feed back? If even if you are of the "harsh... but fair" mind set, do you not think that JM going off like that just encouraged every Izaak fan (and he must have them, cuz regardless, he DID make the Top 10) to vote a thousand times? I'm concerned, if not for Izaak and my bleeding heart tendencies, that it just may back fire.

It’s tough to say who I think will be in the bottom 3(6) this week. I think Izaak’s a lock. Maybe Miles, and I don’t know who the 3rd guy will be. For the girls...eee...I don’t know. I have a feeling Lisa will be there based on attitude alone, and perhaps Natalli. Again, can’t say who the third girl will be, I think Kaitlyn did really well away from Izaak, so I can’t say it will be her. Sheesh, it’s getting tough now.

Carra will add her updates to this shortly. We’re both out in the evening tomorrow night (my plans changed, so I will be here with pen and notebook in hand) so the results show recap will probably show up late on Thursday night or Friday morning.

We’d love to hear your comments about your favourites, what we got wrong, what we got right! Let us know what you’re thinking!
